Dr. César Torres, Dr. Bruce Rittmann, and Dr. Prathap Parameswaran collaborated with colleagues in the Arizona State University's School of Matter, Transport, and Energy to publish "Improved current and power density with a micro-scale microbial fuel cell due to a small characteristic length" in Biosensors and Bioelectronics. The article focuses on using micro-scale microbial fuel cells (MFCs) using a small characteristic length to achieve some of the highest power densities to date. Check it out here!
The Torres lab recently published "Combining microbial cultures for efficient production of electricity from butyrate in a microbial electrochemical cell" in Bioresource Technology. The paper focuses on microbial community management to encourage butyrate fermentation to acetate by Gammaproteobacteria and Clostridia, which is then utilized by Geobacter to produce electricity. The authors include Joseph Miceli (lead author), Dr. Prathap Parameswaran, Dr. César Torres, and Dr. Rosa Krajmalnik-Brown. Check it out here!
