Steven Hart will be presenting "Greener Agriculture, Healthier Forests, Cleaner Waters? Feasibility Studies for Agricultural Biochar Amendment" at Arizona Water Association's 88th Annual Conference and Exhibition on Wednesday, May 6. Steven's talk focuses on the application of biochar from agricultural wastes and forest thinning as a soil amendment to improve crop yields. This work is funded by a P3: People, Prosperity and the Planet Student Design Competition for Sustainability grant.
Mohamed Mahmoud will be presenting "Landfill Leachate Treatment: How to Turn Problems Into Opportunities" at at Arizona Water Association's 88th Annual Conference and Exhibition on Wednesday, May 6. Mohamed's talk focuses on how pretreatment of landfill leachate can improve energy recovery in microbial electrochemical cells.
The Fulton Undergraduate Research Initiative (FURI) Symposium is a highlight every semester in the Torres Lab and the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology. Our engineering undergraduate researchers present their work to their peers, faculty, friends and family. A few photo's from today's event.
Congratulations to Atreya for presenting his research poster titled "A New-Age Energy Source in Sewage" at the 2014 Arizona Science and Engineering Fair on April 1, 2014 at the Phoenix Convention Center. Atreya presented in the senior Environmental Sciences division. His research emphasizes transport dynamics of ammonia in microbial electrochemical cells.
Atreya proclaimed, "The interviews went well. I learned a lot and I am going to use my experience to enhance my future presentations."
Dr. Sudeep Popat will be presenting at The Electrochemical Society's (ECS) 225th Meeting in Orlando, FL. Dr. Popat will be presenting "Electrochemical Characterization Reveals Multiple Distinct Electron Transport Pathways in Anode Biofilms of Geobacter Sulfurreducens." Dr. Popat's contributing authors include Rachel Yoho, Dr. Cesar Torres and alumni Oluyomi Ajulo.
